MET RECOGNIZES AGMA
TO REPRESENT ACTORS GROUP

The core supernumeraries at the Metropolitan Opera have asked AGMA to represent them for the purpose of collective bargaining, and the Met has agreed to recognize AGMA as their representative.

Negotiations will begin soon and, once the terms and conditions of their employment are negotiated, the actors (formerly called the Mime Group) will become part of the overall AGMA bargaining unit at the Met, which consists of hundreds of other artists employed as principal singers, choristers, dancers, and production personnel.

The Metropolitan Opera employs 2389 unionized employees, and has been nominated for the AFL-CIO’s 2007 Employer Award, awarded to an employer with a collective bargaining philosophy that rewards its employees with high pay and excellent benefits, and mutual respect.
