AGMA’s Western Counsel Hope J. Singer Announces Retirement

After over 40 years of practicing both public sector and private sector union-side labor law, Hope J. Singer has retired. Singer joined AGMA in 2018 as its Western Counsel. “Leaving AGMA is bittersweet for me,” said Singer. “I have truly enjoyed my time here, largely due to the wonderful team and the amazing members.” Hope brought a wealth of experience to her role as Western Counsel, ensuring that AGMA continued to forcefully advocate on behalf of AGMA Artists in opera, dance, and choral fields. We are seeking a committed labor professional for the position of Eastern Counsel.  The Eastern Counsel, reporting to the National Executive Director, will function as lead negotiator and administrator for multiple collective bargaining agreements with opera, dance, and concert signatory companies in the Eastern region. A Message from AGMA’s New National Executive Director

A version of this was shared with the AGMA Board of Governors on Thursday, January 27. Today marks my first day as AGMA’s new National Executive Director. I want to start by giving thanks. I have been working at AGMA for a little more than two and a half years as Eastern Counsel. I can say without hesitation that it is an honor and a privilege to represent AGMA’s membership every day. It is a blessing to wake up each morning and know that no matter the challenges of a given day, I get to spend my time fighting for workers and for the truly exceptional artists who make up AGMA. Announcing AGMA’s New National Executive Director

The AGMA Board of Governors is pleased to announce Sam Wheeler as the Union’s new National Executive Director. The Board approved this appointment on Thursday, January 27, 2022. Mr. Wheeler will assume the position on February 1, 2022. Mr. Wheeler is a union-side labor lawyer who has dedicated his professional life to the labor movement. He joined AGMA in 2019 as Eastern Counsel. “During his tenure at AGMA, Sam demonstrated that he is a leader and became known for being a strong and gifted negotiator and a fierce advocate for AGMA Artists across the country. The Actors Fund Announces “Gendertainers: From Safety to Celebration”

The Actors Fund has announced "Gendertainers: From Safety to Celebration." Beginning February 8, this 8-week group aims to create a safe and affirming space for Trans, intersex, non-binary, gender-nonconforming and questioning entertainment professionals. Through dialog and inquiry, the group will address the impact of outdated gender roles and expectations placed on individuals and communities, as well as celebrate the contributions of the trans community in the performing arts and entertainment industry. Order Free COVID Tests: Government Website Launches Early

The federal government has unveiled COVIDtests.gov. U.S. residents can order a maximum of four FREE COVID-19 tests that will ship directly to them via this site. Tests will usually ship in 7-12 days. While individuals should be able to place their orders today, according to the White House, this website is still in a “beta phase” and will formally roll out tomorrow. While a very helpful resource, AGMA members should continue to follow protocols at AGMA companies as these free rapid tests shouldn’t be considered a substitute for any testing being conducted by your employer.
