Dayton Ballet Dancers Show 100% Support for Unionizing with AGMA

November 26, 2025

One hundred percent of the Dancers at Dayton Ballet in Ohio have signed cards to form a union and join the American Guild of Musical Artists (AGMA).

AGMA and the Dancers officially notified the management of the Dayton Performing Arts Alliance (DPAA)–the organization of which Dayton Ballet is a resident company–on November 17, asking them to recognize the Union. In that email, the Dancers stated, “Our decision to unionize is rooted in the mutual benefit it will bring to both current and future dancers and the organization as a whole…Our goal is to work collaboratively with the DPAA staff and leadership to make this workplace better for everyone.”

“Dayton Ballet has a long and treasured history as one of the oldest ballet companies in the country. We want this legacy to continue as one that protects and values the safety and well-being of its dancers,” the Dancers continued. “We are proud that our decision to unionize will elevate Dayton Ballet and its stature within the dance world, and we look forward to our future discussions as we step into the ranks of AGMA companies.”

AGMA is in discussions with the DPAA about an expedited election process.
