AGMA Members Advocate for Arts Funding in Albany

March 16, 2026

On Wednesday, March 11, union members at the Metropolitan Opera joined the Met’s Government Relations team in Albany to advocate for arts funding. Meeting with nearly 30 members of the State Senate and Assembly, legislators were thrilled to meet real-life opera workers, connecting faces to the extraordinary talent behind the Met’s performances.

It was inspiring to advocate in person with union arts workers from AGMA, IASTE Local 764, Theatrical Teamsters Local 817, and Local USA 829, along with Met administrators, standing together with elected leaders. Special thanks to NYS Assembly member Rosenthal and Senator Bottcher for their leadership and commitment to arts funding!

AGMA is committed to working with our signatories across the country in an effort to secure funding from public and institutional sources that will aid artists. Currently, we are working on initiatives throughout the country, including New York, Boston, Ohio, San Francisco, and Texas. If you want to talk more about arts funding, please email communications@musicalartists.org, and we will add you to our Future of Arts Funding meeting list.
