AGMA Ratifies 3-Year Agreement with Boston Lyric Opera

The new collective bargaining agreement between AGMA and Boston Lyric Opera was approved by AGMA leadership, after being overwhelmingly ratified by the shop.

CONTRACT HIGHLIGHTS:

COMPENSATION AND OTHER BENEFITS:

  • Compensation increases of:
    • 3% for first year
    • 4% in the second year
    • 4% in the third year​
  • Regular pay schedule for soloists, including up-front payments
  • Stage Management overtime threshold lowered from 60 hours to 50 hours​
  • $2,500 relocation stipend for Production Staff artists required to move to Boston​
  • Penalty paid by BLO for late-issued Chorus contracts
  • Special payments and revenue sharing for artists engaged in special media projects​
  • Payment for Artist Social Media Takeovers​

DIVERSITY, EQUITY, INCLUSION AND SAFETY:

  • Mandatory contracting of Intimacy and/or Fight Director for productions involving sexual content or violence, including hate speech
  • New requirement that BLO meet and confer with the DEI committee in advance of every production to discuss needs and concerns specific to that production​
  • Gender-neutral contract language; guarantee of all-gender restrooms in BLO spaces​
  • Requirement that BLO provided synopses of new productions when issuing contract offers​
  • New protections regarding heat, smoke/fog effects, flame, and hazardous materials​
