The American Guild of Musical Artists (AGMA) is pleased to announce that a Tentative Agreement (TA) has been reached with the San Francisco Symphony for the 32 union members of the Chorus.
The TA comes after months of negotiations, the expiration of the previous contract, and a strike. It now awaits approval by the shop and ratification by the AGMA’s Board of Governors. While the Union will not disclose all of the details of the agreement until ratification is complete, AGMA can confirm that no chorus jobs were cut.
This outcome was made possible in part thanks to an extraordinary pledge from a donor, who wishes to remain anonymous, establishing a multi-million-dollar endowment restricted to supporting the Chorus. This act of generosity, coupled with the dedicated work of the Union’s negotiating committee, the AGMA shop, and the entire San Francisco Symphony Chorus, exemplifies the transformative power of collaboration between philanthropy and the labor movement to sustain and elevate the performing arts.
AGMA commends the donor’s commitment to preserving the excellence of the San Francisco Symphony Chorus and celebrates the collective action that has helped safeguard these vital union jobs in the Bay Area.
Further updates will follow after the December 16 AGMA Board of Governors meeting.
