AGMAzine Archives: The Early Days of the AGMA Website

April 1, 2026

In the April 2001 issue of AGMAzine, AGMA announced a complete overhaul of its website.

At the time, the internet was still becoming part of everyday professional life. AGMA knew that the update needed to be more than a simple redesign since members were looking for resources online more and more. So, this marked a shift in how the Union shared information, communicated with members, and presented itself to the broader public. The new site introduced improved access to resources and, notably, a new web address. AGMA transitioned from agmanatl.com to musicalartists.org, the domain it still uses today.

From what we can tell, AGMA had only recently entered the digital space. The Union’s first website appears to have launched in the fall of 1999, making the 2001 overhaul an early but significant evolution. At the time, official union email addresses still used AOL domains, a reminder of just how different the digital landscape looked at the turn of the century.

Seen from the present, the April 2001 issue captures a moment when AGMA was beginning to embrace the possibilities of digital communication. What feels routine now, visiting a website, accessing information online, and maintaining a consistent digital presence, was then a meaningful investment in the future of member engagement.

Over the years, AGMA’s website has continued to adapt alongside members and the industry, with redesigns that reflect changing needs and technologies. Most recently, in October 2024, the Union launched a new site design focused on accessibility, usability, and clearer pathways to resources for members.
