Two of AGMA’s very own appear together on the stunning winter 2020 cover of Pointe Magazine. Catherine Hurlin, 24, and Aran Bell, 21, are both recently promoted soloists with American Ballet Theatre.

New York City-born Hurlin began her training at Scarsdale Ballet Studio and Westchester Dance Academy. She received a full scholarship to the American Ballet Theatre Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis School. She attended American Ballet Theatre’s (ABT) Summer Intensive as a National Training Scholar during the summers of 2010, 2011, and 2012. Hurlin joined ABT as an apprentice in December 2013 and the corps de ballet in June 2014.  She was promoted to Soloist in September 2018.

Bell was born in Maryland and was just four years old when he began studying ballet, receiving his early training at Central Pennsylvania Youth Ballet and with Denys Ganio in Rome, Italy. He continued his training with Fabrice Herrault in New York City and Magaly Suarez in Florida. He spent several summers at The Royal Ballet School in London, and at American Ballet Theatre’s Summer Intensive in New York City. Bell joined ABT Studio Company in September 2014, then the main Company as an apprentice in May 2016. He became a member of the corps de ballet in March 2017. He was promoted to Soloist in September 2019.

They will both be at the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts in D.C. this month, performing together in Giselle, and will then move onto the Segerstrom Center for the Arts in California come March, performing together in Of Love and Rage. A paragraph from the cover story states, “There's something very exciting about watching two dancers blossom before your eyes, especially at once.”

The original cover story was written by Marina Harss and can be read here.
