The AGMA Pride Caucus extends its congratulations to the Women’s National Basketball Players Association (WNBPA) for negotiating a new collective bargaining agreement with the WNBA.
A significant majority of WNBA players are Black women, and nearly 30% of the league is openly queer. We are deeply moved to witness athletes from historically marginalized identities secure victorious gains through collective action.
In recent memory, WNBA players navigated conditions that fell short of the league’s growing visibility and success—from modest salaries to demanding, subpar travel and housing arrangements. This new (tentative) agreement reflects years of organizing and hard-fought advocacy and delivers a long-overdue redistribution of the league’s success, with revenue sharing, dramatically increased salaries, and meaningful improvements to players’ working conditions.
The AGMA Pride Caucus stands in solidarity with the WNBPA and celebrates the players not only for this achievement but for their continued leadership as queer role models within and beyond the LGBTQIA+ community.
