The Choristers of Handel and Haydn Society Unionize with AGMA Following Voluntary Recognition

February 11, 2025

The Boston-based choristers of the Handel and Haydn Society (H+H) officially unionized with the American Guild of Musical Artists (AGMA) after management voluntarily recognized their union. The voluntary recognition card check was conducted by the American Arbitration Association on February 7, 2025.

“We are thrilled to welcome these exceptional artists into AGMA,” said AGMA’s National Executive Director Jeffrey Boyd. “By forming their union, they have taken an important step toward securing a strong and sustainable future. We commend H+H management for voluntarily recognizing AGMA and look forward to working together in good faith to ensure the continued success of the chorus, the organization, and its mission.”

Founded in 1815, the Handel and Haydn Society has performed for 210 consecutive seasons, making it the longest-running arts organization in the United States. Its orchestra and chorus engage more than 76,000 listeners annually through performances at Symphony Hall, other prestigious venues, and radio broadcasts.

“We’re very excited to have won our union with AGMA!” the choristers’ organizing committee stated. “We look forward to working with the management of H+H on a contract that will honor our work in the chorus and ensure a rewarding professional experience for current and future artists.”
