On May 23, AGMA Artists of the Metropolitan Opera staged a powerful pop-up demonstration on the steps of Lincoln Center, captivating onlookers with a moving display of solidarity. Singers lifted their voices in a soaring rendition of “Solidarity Forever,” while Dancers transformed the lyrics into movement. Then came powerful remarks from Stage Manager Connie Grubbs (no microphone, just sheer presence.)
“If opera wants a future, it has to value the people who make it happen. That means every artist, every voice, everybody on that stage and behind it… We’re not going to settle for less than dignity, respect, and fair contracts. The fate of our members is inextricably linked to that of the Metropolitan Opera and we are committed to strengthening our partnership.”
Negotiations resume today. We’re united. We’re not backing down. Together we will.
