Special Call for Submissions: AGMAzine’s 90th Anniversary Print Edition

June 9, 2026

For the first time since 2019, AGMAzine is returning to print.

To celebrate AGMA’s 90th Anniversary, the Membership and Member Relations Committee is producing a special print edition of AGMAzine, scheduled for late Fall 2026. We want to hear from AGMA members across the country as we reflect on our shared history, our present moment, and the future we’re building together.

Theme: 90 Years of Solidarity

This special issue will explore AGMA’s past, present, and future through amazing archival pieces and the experiences, perspectives, and creativity of our members. Whether you’ve been a member for decades or joined recently, we invite you to share words, photographs, artwork, or other creative work with us.

Because this is a print magazine with very limited space, not every submission can be included in the print edition. However, we anticipate publishing many additional submissions through a special monthly e-newsletter and/or on AGMA’s website and social media platforms.

Before You Submit: Want to Pitch an Idea?

It’s not mandatory, but if you’re not sure you’re on the right track, we’d be happy to help. Email a brief pitch or concept to mmrc@musicalartists.org by June 19, 2026, and we’ll provide feedback before you begin work on a full submission.

Complete submissions are due July 13, 2026. Please note that complete submissions will only be accepted through the submission form. Following the deadline, MMRC will review all submissions. Members will know the status of their submission by the first week of August.

Keep It Concise!

Space is extremely limited in a 28-page print publication.

  • The recommended average length is 300 – 600 words.
  • Pieces up to 300 words are especially helpful.
  • Longer submissions may be considered, but are less likely to fit in the print edition as-is.

Some Things We’d Loved to See

As you develop your piece, consider how it connects to AGMA’s 90 years of solidarity and the future of our union.

Some prompts that might spark ideas:

  • What does solidarity mean in your artistic life?
  • Write a letter to a future member.
  • Do you know any “fun facts” or interesting points from AGMA’s history? Share them!
  • Are there any iconic artists, movements, or achievements in AGMA’s history that have shaped your connection with the union?
  • What does AGMA’s 90th anniversary mean to you personally?
  • Share a lesson that AGMA’s history can teach future generations.
  • What do you wish today’s members knew about the generations of artists who came before them?
  • What challenges and opportunities do you think artists and arts workers will face over the next decade?
  • How do you imagine AGMA—the performing arts industry—evolving by the Union’s centennial?
  • What moments of collective action have stayed with you?
  • Is there a contract fight, workplace victory, mentor, colleague, performance, or defining moment that changed the way you think about union membership?
  • What does artistic labor deserve in the future?

These are only prompts. We welcome a wide range of approaches and perspectives.
