Met AGMA Negotiating Committee Update

This week, our last currently on the books, we are focusing on safety. As Met Chorister Daniel Clark Smith has said, "Safety doesn't just apply to the stage. On that note, in addition to a discussion surrounding reasonable compensation to Artists for use of free live s... Read More -->

Met AGMA Negotiating Committee Update

Published   |  By Musical Artists  |  Post in All Areas

Greetings from the Met AGMA Negotiating Committee! Though every email and social media post the last 11 weeks has ended with our names and categories, we want to better introduce ourselves. We are a diverse group of 36 Artists, representing every category of AGMA working at the Metropolitan Opera. We are the Artists for a better Met. As Met Dancer Sarah Weber Gallo recently said, "We are working toward tangible, systemic, and sustainable change at the Met. Any partnership in bettering our company requires trust, respect, and a shared commitment to raising up all voices." We will continue to challenge racism, sexism, and all systemic issues Artists face in their workplaces. We know that true change in the Arts will take more than j... Read More -->

AGMA Anti-Sexual Harassment Update

Published March 30, 2021   |  By Musical Artists  |  Post in All Areas

[Content warning: This message contains material about sexual harassment] We write you today to provide an update on AGMA’s anti-sexual harassment efforts. Prior to the pandemic, AGMA had begun a concerted effort with OPERA America facilitated by the Federal Mediation and Conciliation Service (FMCS) in the battle against sexual harassment and discrimination in the Performing Arts. While AGMA has not stopped working to combat sexual harassment in our workplaces, unfortunately, this initiative was temporarily paused in 2020 due to an Executive Order from the previous administration which prevented FMCS from working on anti-harassment initiatives. We are happy to share with you that during the March 22 Board of Governors meeting... Read More -->

Week Eight: Met AGMA Negotiating Committee Update

Published March 29, 2021   |  By Musical Artists  |  Post in All Areas

We have officially entered our eighth week of bargaining with the Met. We entered this early-bargaining agreement clear-eyed that the Met has significant financial challenges as a result of the COVID-19 crisis, and we remain willing to work with the Met to help it survive this difficult time.
