Dancers of Boulder Ballet Take Steps to Unionize

With an overwhelming majority of support, the Dancers of Boulder Ballet have signed cards in support of unionizing with the American Guild of Musical Artists (AGMA). “Workers across the country are recognizing the value of speaking with one voice, organizing, and forming unions,” said Griff Braun, National Organizing Director at AGMA. “AGMA is very happy to support the dancers of Boulder Ballet as they take the first step in this journey, and we look forward to a productive working relationship with the management of the Company.” AGMA has officially notified Boulder Ballet management and is hopeful that the Company will voluntarily recognize the Union. AGMA Supports the Performing Artist Tax Parity Act

The bipartisan Performing Artist Tax Parity Act (PATPA) would be a game-changer for arts workers. This bill seeks to restore tax fairness for entertainment professionals by allowing the deduction of work expenses through updating the Qualified Performing Artist (QPA) deduction - a deduction arts workers lost when tax reform passed in 2017. The last thing entertainment professionals need right now is a tax code that penalizes them for seeking work. The PATPA fixes this problem and would renew the ability to deduct business expenses like agents and managers fees, equipment, website hosting, and audio/video reels, to name just a few. In particular, AGMA celebrates and honors the transgender and non-binary artists who have given so much of their gifts and talents to make the arts better, more inclusive, and more vibrant.
