AGMA Notice: Michigan’s Historic Right-to-Work Repeal

Published February 20, 2024   |  By Musical Artists  |  Post in All Areas

Michigan's historic repeal of its union-busting “right-to-work” law has officially gone into effect (as of February 13). This monumental achievement marks a significant victory for workers across the great state of Michigan, and indeed, for all of us who value the strength and solidarity of our labor unions.

The Union Security Provision of the Basic Agreement between AGMA and Detroit Opera will once again be in effect. Individuals NOT already members of AGMA will need to join AGMA by the 30th day of their employment at Detroit Opera. No action is necessary concerning this update for those who are already AGMA members in good standing.

Members of AGMA understand the vital role that unions play in safeguarding rights, advocating for fair wages, and fostering a workplace environment where every voice is heard and respected. The repeal of the right-to-work law in Michigan is a clear affirmation of the power of collective bargaining and the enduring impact of union solidarity. This repeal is not just a legal victory; it is a triumph for the principles of justice, equality, and fairness.
