AGMA Ratifies 4-Year Agreement with Philadelphia Ballet

The new collective bargaining agreement between AGMA and Philadelphia Ballet was approved by AGMA leadership, after being overwhelmingly ratified by the shop.

CONTRACT HIGHLIGHTS

COMPENSATION AND OTHER BENEFITS:

  • Wage increases of 4%, 4%, 3%, and 3% with an additional 1% annual salary paid out as a COVID Return Recognition Bonus by January 31, 2024 (resulting in a first-year increase of 5%)
  • Significant increases in apprentice wage rates
  • Improvements in PBII and Apprentice progression to corps
  • Increases in choreographer fees and royalties (and language making it clear that choreographers may negotiate above these minimum rates)
  • Increases in seniority payments, delegate fees, master class fees, per diem, SUB, Free Day, Overtime and Penalty rates, and Extraordinary Risk
  • New definition to clarify mandatory vs. non-mandatory work
  • Clarity about social media requests; posting or takeover is nonmandatory; sign-up sheet on Dancer Portal for dancers wishing to participate
  • Comprehensive new media language requiring negotiations over streaming fees for Artists
  • Improved system for ordering and distributing dancer shoes

DANCER WELLNESS:

  • Increase in weekly Physical Therapy (PT) hours from 12 to 18
  • Access to nutrition and mental health counseling
  • Annual season-opening meeting to share information and resources on health, wellness, diet, nutrition, conditioning, and PT
  • Limits on conversations between Artistic Staff and Artists regarding physical appearance/weight.
  • PT communications with Company must be shared with Artist
  • Commitment to ongoing implementation of comprehensive wellness program
  • Additional week of rehearsals post long layoff (from 1 to 2) when possible

DIVERSITY, EQUITY, INCLUSION, AND SAFETY:

  • New language and procedures for reporting complaints, including representation by AGMA rep
  • Juneteenth holiday added
  • Commitment to cultural sensitivity around hair, makeup, shoes, and tights
  • Gender-neutral pronouns
  • Clarified various kinds of leave: sick, childbirth, family bonding
  • Added protections for nursing Artists
