AGMA is happy to announce that we have expanded our bargaining unit at the Metropolitan Opera!

AGMA is happy to announce that we have expanded our bargaining unit at the Metropolitan Opera! Starting in the 2022-2023 season, Stage Manager Fellows and Stage Director Fellows will be a part of our AGMA family at the Metropolitan Opera. Applications are currently being accepted, with a deadline of March 15.

Developed by AGMA members Paula Suozzi and Theresa Ganley, and facilitated by AGMA President Ray Menard, these fellowship programs provide supervised, hands-on experience to early-career stage managers and directors. The fellowships, sponsored by Bank of America, were designed and conceived by AGMA Artists to provide tangible opportunities for individuals who come from backgrounds often underrepresented in the opera industry. Each fellow will participate in the production of repertory opera at the highest level under the supervision of top professionals.

We are sharing this update to celebrate the addition to AGMA, but also to spread the word and encourage interested early career stage managers and directors to apply! These fellowships will begin approximately August 22, 2022, and last up to 33 weeks. The exact schedule will be established based on rehearsal and production schedules. This is a full-time paid opportunity with benefits.

The fellowships began in 2021 and, over the course of the last several months, AGMA has worked to bring these individuals into the union in order to provide them with the benefits and protections of AGMA membership and the Met CBA. Moving forward, fellows will be part of the AGMA bargaining unit, able to serve on AGMA Committees at the Met, encouraged to participate in shop meetings, and otherwise entitled to the full benefits of AGMA membership.

Timing is of the essence as the deadline to apply for either fellowship program is March 15! Please ensure that these opportunities are seen far and wide by sharing this information with your networks, especially on social media.

For more information and to apply, please visit here for the Stage Director position or here for the Stage Manager position. Both of these fellowships are also posted on AGMA’s website.
